I have a set of 30C Schwalbe Winter Ice Spike dodahs that I keep on some spare wheels, Ive had them on since last Thursday and used them everyday since.
Whilst you cant ride like a dry summers day Ive stayed upright and zipped past the kids wheel spinning on MTB knobblies on a couple of the local hills. My estate is like class with compacted frozed snow littered with BMWs unable to climb the speed bumps (i jest not) and these tyres just chug on.
I bought them a few years ago here http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/schwalbe-winter-spike-road-tyre-k-guard/rp-prod118113 and they really keep me commuting during the ice. The down side is they are heavy and noise, oh and they chew up polished shop floors.
