I read that he had posted some good times in training but failed to reproduce in the hurly burly of the real thing. His ambition is limited to representing Scotland at the Commonwealth Games AFAIK.

Not even for Scotland at the Commonwealths, let alone GB at London 2012

There are just so many many guys in the Program quicker than what he did on Saturday and I don't see him improving anything like enough.

Without being too patriotic I would say give Alan a chance. He used to be a road cyclist and the muscles used in Skiing, being an ex-competitive skier myself are relatively similar to the ones used in cycling.

He does have one distinct advantage that no other person has and that is his determination. I have met Alan on a few occassions and he has something about him and never gives up.

I for one truly hope he does well and I like the kind of attitude he displays.
