Other half is a RL. She's loving it, and is a real advocate for getting anyone cycling. I went out on Sunday with her to have a nosey, what I experienced was a great ride, leaders who knew what they were doing, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Hopefully they will go from strength to strength in Bristol (one of their newest cities)

Not easy leading anything these days when everyone 'knows their rights'.

The leaders on the Sky ride I did were competent and affable, I don't see how anyone could object to being led by them.

Not too much elf'n'safety cobblers, and as has been said, helmets compulsory only for the dustbin lids.

I was all set to do the Swansea one...but remembered that they can't be bothered to do Any in Wales!

Its up to the local councils to run these rides, nothing to do with BC or the Sky ride program. get on to your county council or local concil if you want them in your area

Took part in my first local Sky Ride http://www.goskyride.com/ guided event last Sunday, 16 miles steady ride together with about 20 other cyclists from Stafford town centre to Shugbrough via river and canal tow paths:thumbsup:

Any other forum members used Sky Ride?

I do quite a few guided numbers with Skyride, I have a load of routes I've plotted out and go riding with people off of my own back with the ride social as well. It can be a bit hit and miss, but the crowd are usually very good. When I know I've got a clear schedule, I put the routes out on the website, and sit back and wait to see who comes along.

I must have got the wrong end of the stick then. Sky Ride just facilitate the rides online then, will anyone able to arrange them, is it?

The Sky ride I went on was led by leaders who had done training courses in ride leading paid for by Sky.

Very professional, a recce had been done, one of the leaders was a trained first aider, and the response when I fell off was nothing short of exemplary.

We were given Sky branded hi-viz bibs to wear, which added to the impression it was a Sky production.

I reckon some rides on the goskyride website are like the one I went on, others are organised rides with less or no Sky input.

The ones that are organised by the Sky lot have Skyride in the footer, the one's that are sky ride social have Skyride social in the footer, and a disclaimer from Skyride.

There were a few nobbers in Leicester the other week, 'team kit' on and going stupid but on the whole not too many. Kinda goes against the ethos of the day:biggrin:

We had a 'king of the mountain' and a 'World champion' on a 65 mile let's ride further Skyride, last month. We decided that, being in such exalted company, that we would stop at a nice country pub, and see if the group wanted to split, and we'd take the hardy souls up onto a peachy, hilly added loop, whilst the social guys had a break, until we returned. Mr. polka dot came with us, the World Champ developed a 'technical issue' and stayed behind. It's a good giggle having a wind up session with the FPK brigade. The ribbing and piss taking, those two took was all good natured, and was taken in good humour.

Yeah but the Leicester 'City' type of Skyride was on a closed 3 1/2- 4 mile loop with very young kids and tens of thousands of riders of all abilities, not a place to be blasting along dressed up like a 'Pro'.

Sorry that came out all wrong.
The rides are run by Sky ride local it's up to the councils to use Sky as the promoter, e.g. if the councils do not have the budget no rides will be offered
The are separate from the Ride Social with are quite often organised by Sky ride leaders.

No worries. Cheers for clarifying.
