Even my 13 year old son remarked on the casual sexism shown by these ads. Men on drop barred bikes; women following behind on flat barred bikes. I'm not saying flat barred bikes are inferior to road bikes, but in the context of the TDF ...

It's not as bad as the Wiggle ads from a year or two ago but yes, everyday sexism in action. Again.
I like to watch racing and the tactical breaks/hauling-in/climbs/sprints. I don't give a toss about a bunch of riders cycling along chatting to each other during the long bits waiting for something to happen.
Fantastic! now we know how we stand.

Ha. I hadn't even noticed.
And a lot of the audience for this show IS women. There was a survey in one of the cycle mags which found that over 90% of the women interviewed watch the tour!

To you maybe!
I just want to watch the cycling. I don't give a toss about landscape and old churches.

That's a great bit of it for me, seeing where they are - Also it saves money as I don't have to go there, I've seen it!

I think 3 weeks of just seeing a road would get boring VERY quickly and would give no context as where they actually were, making it less relatable to the average person...... Why even bother going anywhere, why not just have it in a velodrome? Can you imagine just how dull and boring that would get after.... Oh, a few minutes?

Different blokes for different strokes MDB.
I am pleased you like the scenery. We all have our preferences, nothing wrong with the that. :okay:

Indeed, it is just that, to have nothing but the road and bikes would probably be the telly equivalent of going somewhere foreign, just to sit by the pool for 3 weeks and not even bother to look at your surroundings :giggle:

If they cut out all the extra flannel and just had it as you like, it would still be a bit boring as you would have all the tedious bits in between where nothing really happened (as someone else already pointed out), but, hey ho, that's life I guess.

As said over in the TdF thread, I think this year's "aren't cyclists nobbers?" ads for cyclist- poisoning emissions-test-cheating Skoda are awful, not a patch on the old race support vehicles ones. The Skoda driving dangerously close behind a woman pulling away from temporary traffic lights is a particular low.

And sounding the horn at her (I know it's supposed to represent the beeps at the start of a TT, but still ....)

i think they should have used a different make of car
Some teams do
SKY are using Ford, one is using Volvo

My new Skoda is on order for September delivery :okay:
I've got an Octavia estate already, & have always been delighted with it (bought it in March 2012, at 6months old)
When time comes to replace it, l would like however, a Superb estate

You struggle to miss them if you watch ITV4 as they bracket the start end finish of every section of the programme. They become the marker fr where to stop your fast forward button if you record the show!

I thought the use of sound effects to create different atmospheres compared to the reality of the cyclist's life was pretty good. I have no opinoin about the car, but I do drive a Honda
