Good god, that was quite a set of responses. Just a shame I'm a linguist not a mathematician.
What I had thought, though, was that I could adjust upwards for the size more easily than I could downwards (new stem etc.) so it might be better to err on the smaller side, which really isn't that much smaller anyway.

Thanks for the answers :o)

Yes. You can. But if you can try before you buy, it's better.

Thanks Dave, I know it is, but time is limited (stock etc.) and I wouldn't be able to try the same bike, so I'm not sure how helpful it would be. Time shall tell if I was stupid ;)

To brighten up your Sunday.

I went to a cyclejumble once and bought a 60cm Major Nicholls road frame. Bargain because the rear triangle was out of alighnment.

Took it to my mate and was told it would cost more to reduce it than build a new frame.
He pulled the triangle back into shape and I gave him £5 from the selling price.

A friend of mine rode straight into the back of a parked car. His Dad was furious.
Crimpled the downtube below the lever bosses.
The frame went back to Mercian and the cost for repair and refinish would have been almost the price of a new 'off the peg' frame.
So he opted for a newun in 1" larger cus he was still growing.
(something was telling me the incident wasn't all accidental ;).)

Think just as a last way of possibly changing my mind although I'll probably ignore, I realised I haven't measured my current bike (not actually sure what size it is). I'll do that and see if I can make sense of it ;)

Ok so I've measured my hybrid, and it seems (measuring from top of seat tube to middle of BB) to be about 56-58cm ish, I can't really tell (bad measuring skills ). On the frame is says 21", but I'm pretty sure that's measuring from a different place.
Now given that I'm 17 and already 6'2", might I grow a bit more and therefore would it be best to go for the 61cm? I have the seatpost raised really rather a lot on the hybrid at the moment...
