I think my racing bike is slightly to big. I got the bike from a LBS and they they recommended the size etc, so I don't even know what size the frame is.

The bike is a Claud butler Strada (lower end carbon frame) (had it for about 2 months now).

The seat post is fully down, and when the bike is stationery, my foot is not flat on the ground, i am on my toes. However, when I am riding, the bike is okay ie leg slightly bent.

It just feels awkward, do you think the bike frame is slightly big for me and when stationery on the bike (at set of traffic lights), my foot should be flat on the floor.

If the bike is big for me what effects would that have on the riding etc?

Thanks in advance

Just measured the frame, from the pedal to the seat post it was 50cm.

I am 5ft 8 and my inside leg is 30".

I have a hybrid LBS put seat height and it felt miles too high to begin with in fact did a similar post as you but now it's 2nd nature and no problem at all. You'll get used to it.

Can't you go back to the shop where you bought it and say 'Oi - it doesn't fit!' Then they'll fit it for you - unless they're complete peanuts, which is rare. Or at the very least give you some basic advice on how to.

Sounds strange to me. You sure your frame is 50cm? I'm about the same height and have equally stunted legs, but the seat is raised a couple of inches with a frame that works out at about 57cm.

So when you say that, do you turn into a racing bike?

Rosan kobar...

Only just being able to touch the ground sounds right, seatpost all the way down doesn't.

Are you measuring your 50 cm from the centreline of the pedal spindle (axle) to the top of the seat tube where the seat post fits in? Isn't there anything on the frame that gives the manufacturer's quoted size?

On this page it gives a quote of the sizes available: 53cm 55cm 58cm

Chipmonster is not exact in saying where he measured to !

Whem you stop, your foot DOES NOT HAVE TO FLAT ON THE FLOOR !

BECAUSE - this serves no purpose - you don not pedal with your feet on the floor: flAT

Going by the fact you point out you have a 30" inside leg means you should have the/a 53cm or the 55cm version.

You could just have 'tight' hamstrings if you've just started riding and so they'll get longer/more strateched as you ride.

Beginners do ride a saddle low to start with for some reason !

Still, find a good bikeshop that will help you with your position OR better still try the shop you bought it from and ask them what size it is!

I dont feel you should on anything higher that a 54cm version.

I'm really, really sorry, but I couldn't resist the Banana Splits reference. Na na na nanana, na na na nanana.

You'll be amazed at how soon you get used to a higher seat position. I've only had my bike 2 weeks yet I have raised the saddle some 4"-5" in this time. I even raised it again whilst out riding today and think I've now got it to the proper height for me.

My feet barely touch the floor either whilst sat in the seat but when I know I'm about to stop I just move my weight forward out of the seat then step down off the pedal to stand, if that makes sense.
