The deceased cyclist and his family might disagree with you. Who’s to know if presented with the same circumstances he wouldn’t behave the same way again? Any remorse shown would be to help reduce his sentence.
They might. But as he was charged with Careless driving and not Dangerous driving it suggests that the incident was not intentional / due to a momentary lapse rather than the more serious charge of dangerous driving. It is unlikely that he would reoffend in the same way, but of course it is not impossible.
The point is that keeping him in prison for longer than needed is not useful or cost effective. Hence we have rehabilitative justice rather than what the Tories want.
Anyone who under any circumstances gets so uncontrollably angry that they’ll use whatever is at their disposal, in this case a car, to kill another human is a danger to the public.
I agree, but I think you may be referring to the two idiots racing rather than the guy without a licence who failed to look properly at a roundabout (there are two cases in this thread 😊)
