Hi

I have just ordered a sirrus online after trying sitting on one in a shop.

About me : 173cm (5.8ft) 30 inch leg.

I sat firstly on the small crosstrail that they had in (no small sirrus in) and that felt comfy but the handle bars felt a bit close but the guy in the shop recommend a small frame.

I then tried the medium sirrus that felt ok but the reach felt further, he said ether would be ideal it depends how i feel, I have spoke to many online bike merchants who say over again that I should be on a medium so that what I've ordered!

I feel now I made a mistake whats your take on this guys?

I would think you would definitely need the medium. My Vita (female equivalent) is small and I am only 5' 3" and I still feel I could nearly have gone up a size.

My second Sirrus was a large, but that was a few years ago. I am 1m78 (around 5'9-5'10). I would think a medium would be right. Sirrus and Crosstrail geometry is different. I had an XL Crosstrail once upon a time which was fine and an XL Sirrus, which was too big and gave me chronic tennis elbow!

Why didn't you buy the Sirrus in the shop after taking up their time?

I'm 5'2 and need a small Vita.
I have access to a medium size and tbh on a longer ride I do find it just that little too big.

I would say that the OP would possibly be between a medium and a large frame depending on how he likes to ride

I'm 5'10 and got myself a Large (Sirrus 2014). Every shop I visited tried to convince me that the size that fits me is the one I'm sitting on, even mediums. I still went with large and I still believe that is my size.
Don't forget that when you ride your legs will be on the paddles, so sitting on is not exactly trying. You may find it more comfortable then you think it will be. And I think you got the correct size. The charts seem to be pretty accurate and for your height the medium is recommended. I don't adjust the stem, I simply fold or not my arms. I know this is for a road bike but it shows more or less the adjustments you need to do to fir the bike.
