Sirrus Elite Disc tyre question

Been commuting on my Sirrus Elite Disc (2013) for a few months now - 25 mile round trip (roads and paved cycle ways). The bike has Nimbus Flakjacket 28mm tyres and I run them at 110 psi. Its fine on smoother rods but some of the surfaces round here (Glasgow) are terrible and at times the ride's pretty harsh. I'm careful about checking the tyres and amazingly have yet to have a puncture.

I was wondering about getting a bigger tyre like a 32 mm in something very puncture resistant like a marathon plus and running it at a lower pressure to try and improve the ride on rough roads a bit.

Is this a good idea. Will they fit on my wheels?

My standard Sirrus came with Nimbus 32mm so Im sure they would fit. Just call a Specialized store if you want to be certain. As for puncture resist tyres there are a few on the market and everyone has their favourites but the marathon plus do get rave reviews but are on the heavy side. Im sure somebody will come along and say if its a good idea or not to run the tyres a little deflated. I use to run my Sirrus @ 100psi with no problems.

Heavily p* protected tyres can be stiff & harsh riding - the Continental Touring Plus (which have a subtread rubber belt, like the M+) I ride at the moment are like that, and very finicky about being at the right pressure too (if the psi drops too much, they feel really leaden & slow).

It's a trade off - for me, I was happier on Continental Comfort Contacts (which have a Kevlar breaker belt only), and didn't suffer too much from p*, commuting daily in and out of Manchester, although I daresay the tyres were less resistant.

110 psi is quite a lot for a 28c tyre , imo 90 psi rear and 80 psi front would be better

Very true. The lower pressure allows the tyre to deform with the road surface, rather than bouncing around, which makes for a more comfortable ride. I'm running 25c's at 90 psi and I'd probably run 28's at 80. You won't get pinch punctures at that pressure.
