There's still an element of shame to it, and that somehow the person with it is in someway responsible/to blame.

As said by postman, it doesn't care who you are, and money means nothing to it.

I'm not sure about the first bit, or I've certainly never been aware of it before.

I do think some like my old man wouldn't want to show weakness as demonstrated by the day my sister had to wrestle with him for hours to get him looking like a new pin. The disease was advanced by this time and she took in 99% of the burden. I swooped in and all I had to do was wrestle him out the car, which wasn't easy, but when he heard the voices of all his old pals in the clubhouse, he skipped in the last few steps like a teenager.

I'm sure he wasn't kidding anyone on but himself, but only I knew the gargantuan effort it took to put on that little show.

Bumping this because sadly Chris Hoy's cancer has progressed.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/o...reveals-cancer-terminal-says-feels-lucky.html

I hadn't realised his wife has MS. What an awful time for them.

Wow. A trip to the doctor about shoulder pain turns out to be incurable secondary cancer!
He seems to be so stoic about it. I wish good luck to all of the family, his children are so young.
I hope i am able to face life’s uncertainties in the same way.
He comes across as such a grounded man in all interview.

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
Having found this out late this evening it's floored me a bit: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cj4dr9xdxgro

Not having any symptoms, his wife being also diagnosed with MS and having young children.

I was watching him commentate on the track racing yesterday evening and I'm amazed he's keeping so positive. All credit to him and I hope his lifestyle before being diagnosed, and since, means he far outlives the doctor's expectations.

Awful news but what a demonstration of how we all should aim to live our lives.

He is 100% right we all die, it's a 100% guarantee. But most of us cannot hope to achieve 10% of what's his done, nor replicate his amazing work ethic and attitude to live.

A truly amazing human being, someone who shows why humanity can be amazing, in a world of where humanity is trying its hardest to destory itself.

We should aim to be more like Hoy, and Rob Burrow. Death isn't to be feared but it should be driver to make sure each and everyone of us makes use of our time to do our bit for those around us.

Why keep it quiet, at it's not something to be ashamed of?

By making it public you are helping others like Rob Burrows with MND...

Not that I don't respect people's right to privacy.

Perhaps he didn't want it all to become a distraction or the be all and end all of any conversations he had at a work level, keep that to one side so's to speak.

I saw the news yesterday...very sad and wish him well
