I predict that Radio 2 RAJAR figures will drop significantly in the 6 months following the start of the new presenters.

I reckon with a national radio station like R2, you could put any annoying jerk presenting any of the daytime slot shows, and there would still be high listening figures.
Steve Wrights show proves that.

If you want to dislike Whiley even more tune your ear into the loud breath she takes between sentences. Deeply irritating!

Only reason we listen to Wright is because none can be arsed to re-tune the radio, it's been mighty close a few times though..

Feel sorry for Mayo, had his show trampled all over and ruined by Whiney so he's had no choice but to jump ship..

So, with the new schedules and presenters in place, what are everyones thoughts?

Tuned into Ball and Cox, respectively, and while both shows are a notch above a lot of the other stuff out there they're both missing something.

In particular I don't think it's helping Zoe Ball that they've given her the people who were the holiday cover travel reporter and sports presenter under Evans - it makes it feel like she's standing in for the regular presenter. They'd have been better coming in with a completely new line up IMHO. It's all a bit too safe and corporate - there's no edge to it.

So, when Chris Evans launched on Virgin last Monday i tuned in and have carried on listening since. He's had the sense to effectively move the show lock, stock and barrel to Virgin and apart from changing the words to some jingles and mentions of Sky (who sponsor the show, meaning it's ad free) you'd be hard pushed to tell it apart from his Radio 2 offering. He's taken a couple of the on air team with him and (apparently) a few behind the scenes too.
And why change it? It was by far the most popular breakfast show on the radio by a long way and it works.

As for Sara Cox, as much as I'm a fan she is far more suited to Breakfast, something the BBC seemed to agree with since she was Evans regular stand in before he jumped ship. The drive time show is still on, but that's mainly due to inertia and a lack of any decent competition.

And one final note - Zoe Ball's replacement on a Saturday afternoon is the dreadful Rylan Clark-Neal. I listened to his first show, but the irony of him getting people to message in about when they'd met Z-listers was too much for me and I tuned out never to return.

I haven’t turned on the radio since the drive time debacle with Mayo and the woman they had on. So I can’t comment on the new presenters on R2, I never liked them when they stood in, just used to annoy me with the inane banter.

I shall be interested to see the next set of RAJAR figures.

It’s interesting to see the big earners jumping ship from the BBC once the salary disclosure was revealed.
Evans, Mayo and Eddie Mair have all left. Their combined salary was around £2.5 million.

well a bit of thread resurrection here..... and slightly off topic:

Being stranded overseas, I used to really enjoy Pete and Geoff on Virgin radio back in the late 90's early 2000's (can't remember if it was a morning show, but I think it was). Pete played the straight man to Geoff, who in all honesty could be a bit annoying at times, but I thought the pair of them really worked well together.

I know they were some of the early adopters of podcasts, but sadly I can't find any download site for them now. If anyone knows where I can get them from, I'd love to listen to them again as now I'm old enough to forget and have the treat of listening to them again as anew.

Then Pete decided to leave, Geoff went out of his own and Anabel Port joined him. It was never the same, never quite had that same chemistry or humour IMHO. Anabel Port just never did anything for me humour wise and the more (on the face of it) serious foil of Pete left an empty hole. Add in the fact for some reason Virgin -who subsequently changed to Absolute Radio -seemed to want to block any overseas listeners on the internet listening in and I lost interest quickly. I thought Pete and Geoff were great together though.

Edit: got it wrong, it was the early 2000's https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_and_Geoff -mind you that still supports the fact I could more than likely listen to the podcasts like they were the first time!
