Has anyone used the bar-end lights you can get? No good for drop bars obviously.
Just wondered if they are any good or just a bit gimmicky.

I have put some of the tape I mentioned above (bought from beseenonabike) on my drop bar ends and on the ends of the grips on the straight bars on the other bike. both are done to be seen from front, rear and side (all in amber colour)

I've been told it shows up well.

I use side lights and reflectors to make my self visible from the side.

Second this, my Tif and in fact all of the bikes in our family are adorned with these, marketed either as Sekuclips by Amazon or as spoke reflectors by eithr Halfrauds or Lidl. Made by 3M and use Scotchlite as the reflective medium so are easy to spot. I like them because they are (a) lightweight and (b) passive i.e. need no batteries so should always work. Doesn't seem to matter if they get dirty, they just reflect a little less well

I even have a few of those spoke reflectors glued to the pannier rack along with some reflective stickers 50 p for a sheet , works a treat .
Also have the back of the helmet plastered with the same stickers as my main concern is being seen from behind on unlit country lanes rather than smidsies from the side or front.

just drove to a junction and didnt see anything coming, i always stop anyway, on my second glance i saw a cyclist almost directly in front of me. It worried me as if id been rushing or somebody less experienced may have pulled out.

so now to the question, we light up in front, we light up behind, should we use side lights or wheel lights?

I'm all for safe illumination, be it front, rear or side, but surely in the situation described, it's better front lights that were required.
This cyclist must have had poor or missing front lights otherwise you would have seen their approach at your first look, and I imagine like most members on here, that you'll be more bike aware than none cyclists.

thats what worried me g zero, i am more aware than most and still missed at first glance

i think we are used to seeing big objects and with so many lights like street lights, hourse lights etc in built up areas a quick glance you dont pick out a single light

maybe the answer is flashing lights, a solid light is lost in your vision, i flashing light is picked up?

im not sure myself, was looking for other views to see if im on the right lines or not
