just drove to a junction and didnt see anything coming, i always stop anyway, on my second glance i saw a cyclist almost directly in front of me. It worried me as if id been rushing or somebody less experienced may have pulled out.

so now to the question, we light up in front, we light up behind, should we use side lights or wheel lights?

I have both white and amber reflectors on the wheels of my Falcon Explorer hybrid bike, and my Landrover Visalia has marathon tyres with the built in reflector. However, for my Falcon I am consider getting a pair of Nite Ize SpokeLit in Disc-O. My link

I am a big fan of Nite Ize products, having upgraded all of my Maglites recently with the LED and tail switch kits, but the Icing on the cake as far as I am concerned is the Nite Ize MeteorLite K9 LED dog ball in Disc-O ...... .... I can see my Collie Oz at over 200 metres out when he's playing with this.

I use side lights and reflectors to make my self visible from the side.

Stupid question time here , how do they work Gaz?

Edit: Are they the reflectors?

Edit again: They are aren't they, sorry everyone, I'll get my coat

Its a sad fact though that most folk are only troubled by SMIDSY in the day time, I certainly am :-( Having said that I try to go for lights that have some sort of sideways illumination. I've also put conti reflex tyres on my city bike recently (they have a reflective band al the way round on side walls) but that was more to do with the price and being a brand I trust.

whats SMIDSY?

Its the typical excuse from the driver that has just nearly killed you, Sorry Mate I Didn't See You :-(

Like Gaz I use spoke reflectors. I,ve posted this picture before - 3M reflectors and Scwalbe Marathon tyres on the tourer.

Both bikes now also have some sticky backed yellow reflective tape on their frames as well.
