That's really nice actually, and tbh, doesn't look silly. Mainly due to the shape of the case. It "sits" well if you see what I mean.

Sometimes it's not just wrist size, but wrist shape as well. I have my grandad's tank watch, which has a curved case, and I can wear it really comfortably. Whereas my dad's dress watch - the case is flat and the lugs are actually wider than my wrist! So that one stays in the sock drawer LOL. (OK, it has other issues as well, but that's not relevant here.)

Thanks 🙂. True, case size isn't everything and how the watch sits on/curves around your wrist makes a lot of difference. I did learn a couple of moderately costly lessons earlier in my collecting years when I bought 2 watches that had an overhang on my wrist and just looked daft. I'm a bit more careful these days...

I also find that weight matters for wearability and I have a preference for titanium for that reason (that Seiko in the pic is Ti but only weighs in at 140g despite being near on 45mm x 15mm).

Case style, too, makes a difference. Likewise, I too made a couple of mistakes early doors, albeit less costly ones, as some styles wear smaller than others, even if they're nominally the same size. The appearance of being too small looks equally daft as being too big.

Weight too. My biggest "lumps" are the Mirvaine (30mm SS case and bracelet) and a Tissot Lobster (25mm SS case and bracelet with the two big solid pieces either side of the case). Lovely watches, but you don't half know you're wearing them! In contrast, that Longines, you barely know it's on your wrist.

Never tried a titanium watch. Would have to look for a kinetic / eco-drive I think.

these are mine, not exactly a collection, i just buy to wear

the bulgari octo is the latest, titanium, it's an automatic but the movement is only a smidge thicker than 2mm, but really i got it because of the laurent grasso design, i like his work

My 13th birthday present watch was an Avia electronic analogue. It wasnt very reliable or water resistant and was replaced by a Casio after a few years. Ebay price is now £165!

that takes me back, i used to have one of those too, though it was gold coloured, must've been first half of the 1970s, it didn't make it to the 1980s

My favourite out that lot is the Breitling - remember really wanting one of those years ago before I started acquiring watches.

Although can't help but be impressed at the Bulgari and how they fit a functioning movement into a case 2mm thick.

yes, i love the navitimer, must be close to 30 years since i got it, over time the slide rule gets tougher and tougher to turn, i'll probably treat it to a new strap at the next service

have you seen they've got an even thinner cosc one at 1.7mm, and a tourbillon version that's 1.85mm, both including the case, which is insane, they're so thin that there's no crown, instead there're 'side wheels' that poke out to wind/adjust, they make mine look chubby

Thanks to @Reynard for steering me to the watch thread.

Here's my latest purchase, now posted in the right thread 🙂 I like to go for the lesser known stuff on occasion.

Eyup Stevo. I quite like that so I took a look on their website. Quite like the fact that they look expensive but are actually quite affordable. I'm in the States end of next month so might treat myself.

Nice one SF, glad to be of service.

It definitely punches above its weight in terms of quality and worldtimers at that price are like hen's teeth. The only thing you might want to think about is if you have big wrists as it's quite a small watch - 40mm - but is fine for me as I have 6.3" chicken wrists.

Let me know if you bag one.

I guessed it was from the nineties or naughties, nice.

Yep, I did see the new ultra skinny version, must be like wearing a credit card on your wrist 🙂 I go to the opposite extreme sometimes - my Ball Deepquest is 10 times thicker than that Octo tourbillon...although tbh probably necessary to get that 3,000m water resistance you need for a pool holiday 😀
