Tkx. I will have a chat with them. I need a cassette with more than 34 these days!

Well that's the thing. I didn't really want to get a bigger cassette so decided to go down the super compact chainset route and it's the best thing I could ever have done. You haven't got those huge steps up and down the gears with large cassettes.

That, and the fact you can buy a whole chainset for the price of a replacement Ultegra chain ring.

46t is the biggest chainring I run nowadays, 46/30 on The Spa Elan, 46/36 on The Chesini steel and 46/34 on The Pickenflick CX. I run a 34t on the MTB with I think a dinner plate 52 on the rear, it came with 30t chain ring, I thought it was a bit low.

I’m on 46/30 on the spa elan GRX groupset with 11-40 cassette. The rohloff is even lower. On the Spa audax I’m 44/28 on TD2 with 11-34. I find that the ratios on the audax are pretty perfect for round here such that I can use the big ring most of the time and then the little ring on proper hills. The elan gearing is a bit more awkward as I’m moving between rings more often. I’m in a pretty hilly area so I’m quite happy with these low gears.

Mines on the trainer now, it’s time to go outside with it though for some decent longish rides.

Oh go on then - mine as they currently stand.
1) The one that started it all as an early 50th birthday present to myself and has just had its 10th birthday - a slightly tarted up and debranded Van Nicholas Ventus

2) What was the main commuter until I retired earlier in the year - a standard Van Nicholas Ventus SE.

3) Spa Elan - originally supplied with Shimano 105 and double crankset but converted to a SRAM Rival 1x at 10,000 miles and will stay like this.

4) On-One Pickenflick. Frame & forks picked up on clearance, built up as a flat bar from bits I had in stock or picked up cheap specially. Has been through various iterations but another that I've settled on with SRAM 1x drivetrain as the final set-up

Planet X Spitfire. People may scoff at PX but the welding is beautiful for a cheap frame & it’s 7kg with Ultegra R8000. You could get it very light with a few upgrades. The quality is very good for what I paid. Frame & fork around £600 in a sale. Bargain.

Who's scoffing? I've never had any one scoff at my PX bikes.
When I took my PX to one of my local bike stores he said it's one of the best made Ti frames he's seen.

Nobody from this forum, everybody is well grounded. Just certain individuals I’ve known in the local cycling community. Sometimes out with Wayne Randle and he rides the same on his Planet X as he does his £8,500 Factor.
