Should I nod at/acknowledge other riders?

I usually nod, wave or shout hello when I'm out for a ride away from the city. In the city I don't bother. Doesn't bother me if someone doesn't acknowledge me.

It is strange though how some people get so wound up about this - the shock of a total stranger not waving at you in 21st century Britain!

I tend to use country lanes and quieter roads for my commute so see the same people nearly every day! Maybe I'll just have to invest in some day glo lycra as suggested  but just seems ignorant to me and not something I'd do.

Another person ignorant of the benefit or wearing Lycra. It is light, very light, comfortable, wicks away sweat and dries very quickly. But I guess you cycle in jeans or tracky bottoms and a hooded top which all act like a sponge soaking up sweat, becoming very heavy in rain and miserably uncomfortable to cycle in. But each to their own.

On the nodding front - I do have fun with this middle aged woman on my commute. We pass each other on the way in, and on the way home, everyday. And everyday, I nod and say hello, and everyday she ignores me. So, each day, I get almost indiscernibly louder, until one morning she'll crack take out an injunction

A nice morning this morning...bright sun if a nittle nippy, the moobs had chapel hat pegs on the descent into Hathersage so I think the new baselayer will be brought out soon...quite a few cyclists like minded fools out for a morning spin and it was nods, smiles and "mornings" all the way

It just makes things a bit more cheery

I think you are being a little presumptious Crankarm, it is often possible to get from A to B on a bicycle without sweating.

I pretty much always acknowledge other cyclists and would always reciprocate. It's one of the things I love about our sport. Maybe I'm lucky with where I live, or just have a friendly face, but I'd venture around a 90% success rate?

As for assistance. I offered help just the other day. It wasn't needed, but it was there. I've also received a few offers of help just lately, including by a guy with a bike rack, offering me a lift home. I'm hoping that there was nothing sinister in his offer!

On second read of this, I'd best just point out that I didnt take the lift, it looks like I have written it whilst sitting in the car, maybe going an "alternate" route home!
