Thanks everyone for the advice/tips like people said I'm going to mix it up abit, like PK99 said about hills I felt guilty about mates having to wait! They where fine about it, it was me just being paranoid! I did my longest ride yesterday 21.3 miles with only max elev 249ft,elev gain 352ft and avg speed 10.4mph no records broke but well chuffed with myself 20+ ride.
Cheers
I prefer a bit of a climb or two, went over N Lincs last summer and scaled up a pancake is hillier, I just found it boring, but has as been mentioned it has its benefits, its good for losing wait as you don't tend to be working at an elevate HR, however it doesn't help with being able to climb hills well, so if you can mix it up, with some shorter more intense riding and some longer more relaxed, and these doesn't mean relaxed as if you don't work at all.

Do both! Personally I find really hilly rides far more tiring. I've done Peak District routes at 60 miles with over 7,000ft of climbing, averaging 13mph and been knackered, but over 100 miles in Lincolnshire, 3500ft of elevation at 17mph average I found much easier.

Must be the hilly part of Lincs, as I do that rate here 35-40ft/mile and whilst its not hilly, there a few little climbs I go over to Lincs its down to something Like 23ft/mile
