I want to get myself some cycling boots for winter.
Can anyone suggest some bike shops in London that would be worth looking round? I know that Evans on Waterloo Road specialise in mountain bike stuff, so I'll have a look there. Is there anywhere else worth trying?

Many thanks.

Cycling boots? Do you mean overshoes? Condor Cycles on Greys Inn Road is an excellent place for anything roadie-related, and I like the new Bike Hut near St Pauls - I know its Halfrauds but they are really nice ppl in there and got a decent range of stuff I think. You could also try Cycle Surgery on Proctor Street for a different range again.

To clarify, I am after something like lightweight walking boots, preferably waterproof, but with fixings for clipless pedals. I can find some examples online, but obviously I want to be able to try them on before buying.

Thanks for your help though.

I can recommend the Specialized Defroster MTB boots - reasonably warm (I'll still probably don overshoes if it gets close to freezing), and totally sealed off from the elements. Good fit for wide feet too. I had always considered specific winter shoes as being a little extravagant but I wish I'd got them years ago as I suffer from cold feet and will probably wear them right through autumn and the spring too.

I'll volunteer that Diadora Chilli aren't waterproof and aren't all that warm either

Condor is a nice shop, but it's pricey and gets busy at the usual hours

Very hard to gauge winter boots as everyones' feet are different as regards cold, if you want to be sure check some the extreme cycling sites, they ride in sub zero as standard

Thanks all. I'll have a look round the suggested shops when I get a chance. My feet are awkwardly small and narrow, I often end up having to buy women's shoes. I used to have an old pair of lightweight hillwalking boots with worn-down tread that didn't stick on the pedals, but the upper has worn out now too. Also, I finally converted to clipless pedals this year and I don't want to go back to toe-straps, so I'm after something more bike specific.

Perhaps you're not wearing them correctly mate. Woolie Boolies + Diadora Chilli Extreme Road boots = very warm feet.
