Considering replacing my 105 (5700) FD. Looked at Ultegra and came across this. Can anyone vouch for it as I never knew that there was a cyclocross specific derailleur. How well or badly woulld this work with my 10 speed 5700? Front chainrings 50/34.

It would work just fine.

The only difference between the CX70 and 6700 is the chainring size. I have two CX70 chainsets, one running with CX70 FD, the other with 6700. I can't see any difference between them, other than one is top pull and the other is bottom pull.

Why are you looking to change as a matter of interest?

Thanks for your reply. Just edited my post, I stated 105 (6700) instead of 5700. My front chainrings are 50/34. Would it still work?

The reason I want to change my FD is that the 105 FD I have at the moment is clunky and I've had nothing but trouble with it. May be faulty, but I've not knocked it or damaged it in any way.

If your current FD is not damaged, then I suspect it just needs setting up correctly. The only 'realistic' improvement you'll get with the CX70 is a tiny weight saving.

Yeah, I was thinking that there may not be much difference between the two.

I dunno, I've tried setting it up again (yesterday, in fact) and no matter what I do, I seem to get chain rub and sometimes it shifts well, but the trim function is off, other times it shifts poorly, but the trim works!! Don't know if the limit screws are worn or whatever, but it's just a huge PITA. I have an old Sunrace R80 groupset on my old bike, and that doesn't give me half the trouble the fancy 5700 does. I've just ordered some new inner cables, so will have another go tomorrow.

Might not be the cause, but how long since you replaced your cables (inners and outers)? In my experience haphazard derailleur performance is often caused by dirt/rust inside the outers causing friction problems. RDs are usually more susceptible to this for obvious reasons. If you're changing the inners, I'd change the outers too and see what happens.

I'll wait for these inners to arrive, as I already have some spare outer cable. Will let you know as and when. Thanks for the help ;)
