I am looking for a sturdy soled shoe for commuting on flat pedals as trainers aren't very comfy.
Just ordered the MT33 from Hellfrauds - will collect in store so I can try them on and also get my BC discount  Anybody had these shoes? How do they come up fit wise, especially width?

Just be careful if it's got the hard plastic cleat screws cover, it's slippy as fark on flats.

It could on mine but they were 2012's. It'll leave holes into the shoe tho, if you can live with that then you'll be ok.

They may have improved it since tho, it was just a heads up. Apart from that tho they are great 3 season shoe.

Cheers  I'll have a look at the cover when I collect them

Any other alternatives around £40? I had some Specialized Sonomas but they had no grip and are now much better with cleats attached. However, I don't think I will be wanting to commute into London with cleats (enough loons on the roads to contend with and don't want to have to think about what my feet are doing)! I guess the shoes are on the heavy side for summer?

Not for me, the mesh sides breath really well.

Yep that's the sucker, looks the same, but it may be made out of something softer. I was thinking of making something thin and waterproof to replace it, but I went back to cleats once I got the CdF.

The problem is that the cover is the same level as the softer rubber sole so the cover ends up slipping and sliding around on the pedal axle.

But don't let that put you off, they are really good shoes just be prepared to do a bit of Blue Peter- ing - then again they may be ok on your pedals.

Just be careful you don't get the laces caught in the chain whilst doing nearly 20mph down a slight hill

Hmmmm, it's a fair point and sounds like it's based on anecdotal evidence. However, there are literally millions of cyclists riding bikes without fancy Velcro lace cover thingies who don't get caught, maybe your cankles caused the problem...

On a fixie obviously it's a bit more crucial.

If you can suggest some, I'd rather brown than black. Maybe I'll add some different laces ;)

Black shoes are ok, especially where they may get mucky, just not black bikes
