just bought a new chain for my trek mountain bike, found it was too long, got out rivet extractor and snapped it. went to Halfords and bought new extractor rivet would not budge and signs of extractor snapping. Got out hammer and punch to do job, no problem. has anyone else had this with Shimano chains or was i just unlucky.

That sounds like a problem with the extractor rather than with the chain, TBH. Though it does seem odd that it happened twice.

First extractor was old and the luggs that hold the chain snapped but the second one was new out of Halfords, just would not pash the rivet out, did not want to force it. going to try with old chain

where do you stay and where do you normally cycle, I could look out for you.
what type of bikes do you use as its easier to identify the bike than the person.
