Hi there.

The shifter for the rear derailleur on my T3 seems to have developed a problem. The small level works fine but the one combined with the brake level often fails to "catch". I guess that there some sort of ratchet mechanism. A spray inside with GT85 didnt help. Any ideas?

Cheers.

I strongly suspect that it's time for a new set or perhaps an upgrade

I would take it back to Decathlon. It should be under warranty.
I have not had a problem with the Sora or Tiagra bikes in the past but I did have to have a Sram shifter replaced under warranty as some of the teeth sheered on the ratcheted spline.

It's only 5 months old!!

I'd also check that the nipple on the gear cable is seated correctly. Sometimes the cable stretches and the nipple starts coming away from its housing and sticking when changing gear.

Otherwise take the lever back and get a replacement. Shimano levers do go wrong so it won't be the first one they have ever seen returned by any means.

Same problem here, I think, but now a complete failure. I've had the bike for about 5 years now, and its had a hard life.
Is there a simple fix?

The grease can dry out with age causing the ratchet pals to stick. Try a squirt of GT85 (other products are available) and try in a few days. Cured mine, exact same problem on a 2300 brifter.

On a related note, people get sniffy over them but when they work they're quite slick, and they're great for commuting if you spend much of your time up on the hoods.

Almost flooded the whole mechanism with WD-40, and still no better.
