shimano 105 vs ultegra why do i feel this way

Mine used to slip on my hybrid cheapo job though. Even that was cured by correct indexing. My 105 road bike is seamless and very smooth and quiet so personally I think like others have said its the set up that's the issue not 105.

ive reflected on this, and am going to get it sorted, indexed, adjusted.

went on a ride with the hybrid ultegra today, i found it harder work,.

so the gears may be smoother on the ultegra but they are harder work.

Whether it's setup or not it still has to bed in. I think a lot of the perception it in the mind cos you paid more.

I don't doubt the more expensive stuff has better bearings, better finish on surfaces etc. but this does need to go through a "common sense" filter.

Where does most of the friction and imprecision actually occur? I noticed more of an improvement using decent Teflon coated cables (what £2?) and paying better attention to their routing than I could ever notice from going to 105 to Ultegra.

I have no experience of Sora, but the 9 speed Tiagra I have is also very nice.
