I went out for a gentle pootle on my hybrid this morning, and found myself on part of the course of the Essex Roads Autumn Leaves sportive. I was riding the opposite direction to the sportive riders. Surprising how many greeted me even though they were really moving at speed. I approached a very sharp right hand bend and thought it would make sense to keep well over to the left as the riders coming towards me were descending and the lane was very narrow. Just as well I did as a lady rider overcooked the bend and had to swing wide. She just missed me by inches. Had I been a car I wouldn't have fancied her chances. No harm done, and I'm not having a moan having done similar myself in the past, but just shows how easily and quickly things have the chances of going pear shaped.
