Wrong! Professionals aside, with their fancy massages and their constant falling off and getting road rash the real reasons 'serious cyclists' shave their legs are:

1 - It looks better in lycra (and all serious cyclists are posing tarts - I speak as one myself)
2 - Everyone else does it and we don't won't to be left out of the gang. A badge of honour, I once heard it described as.

I acknowledge that neither of these are strictly sporting reasons, but they are the real reasons. You correctly identify that one you've done it, you do find you like it.

Shaving that amount of hair would be a job like painting the Forth Road Bridge, I think I'd just accept my fate and become a gorilla-o-gram

Also after one to many bouts of road rash you might find that your legs look really silly unshaven because they have bald patches on them!.. I speak from personal experience

I'm thinking I may be able to get an extra mile per hour due to decreased wind resistance. How high do I shave, do I shave or wax, etc.? All the usual questions...
