A better report, this one states he was hit, thus a vehicle was involved:

Sounds quite serious this one, here's hoping shane gets well soon.

I wish a swift recovery to Shane and Bradley. But I am also angry, and I really, really hope that these two accidents light some little spark of awareness of the poor road conditions for cyclists and the poor standards of driving in Britain, deep down in the dull depths of few politicians' brains.

FFS!

Can anyone clarify what ''involved in an incident'' means? It doesn't seem to mean anything more than ''something happened,'' and I think we'd guessed that from the news.

Hoping for a quick recovery. It's a horrible fluke how its happened to him and Wiggo on successive days. While I too hope it stirs some action on road safety, there always a risk it will increase the perception that cycling is dangerous - when in fact it is is not, especially.

Reminds me that Simon Doughty who worked for BC and is author of Long Distance Cycling got hit and got serious brain damage going to work at BC in Manchester in 2006 and AFAIK is still in residential care.

FFS.

I've been catapulted down the A6 in Levenshulme at 25 mph by a left hooker. Ghastly area to ride in.

More idiot drivers.
thought it would be like that... I've driven round that area, but wouldn't want to be anywhere near the a6 due to assuming it's ruddy awful...

It's OK to McVitties heading into Manchester, but gets crap after that. Too many 'corner shops', fried chicken take aways etc. I usually turn off at Levenshulme Station and go into town via the A34. I only use the A6 if I need to be in early, otherwise I avoid it completely.

I was hit coming out of Manchester, on the run into Levenshulme, doing about 25 on inside lane, transit on outside lane decided he wanted to turn left, did so, I went through his wing mirror, over the bonnet, flew through the air and landed on my back on the pavement, in between scaffolding outside a pharmacy. The bike wasn't so lucky and hit the scaffolding, bent the top tube.
