As an aid to lose some weight and get fitter - 3 months ago i simultaneously gave up smoking, starting eating very healthily.....and so far have been riding 10-12 miles every before work, and upto 30 mile rides at weekend. Couples with generally trying to be more active, making an effort to do 2 long dog-walks a day etc etc

I've lost just under 3 stone so far (Less than a stone off ideal weight now), and obviously feel great within and about myself right now.....^_^

Last weekend i treated myself to a Giant TCR3 Composite, and am hankering after doing something a little more competitive than the 'keep-fit' ive been doing.......... But thats to come perhaps.

Anyway - that a little about me. So heres a few pictures from this mornings early ride around the Lowestoft, Oulton Broad area in Sunny Suffolk.

So..........WHO SAID CYCLING DOESNT ATTRACT THE BIRDS !

Cheers, and ride safe - Shuv.

Sounds like you've found the magic training schedules that work really well and can be sustained - don't change too drastically. I always think that joining a club opens up many possibilities and maintains the interest. After just three sunny months, it is going to be the winter months that will be the challenge.

Great photos by the way, just need a few with the bike in the foreground.
Cheers Keith

My advice? Give it up now. Before long you'll be looking at 50 mile rides on the weekend, and then someone will challenge you to do a 100km, then 100 miles, and suddenly the sort of distances that looked like the preserve of the super-fit mega athletes are actually well within your capability. Then someone will mention "Audax", and 200km, 400km and further start to get mentioned.
Then you'll start buying more kit. Better clothes, Garmin navigation, Heart Rate Monitors. Then you will join British Cycling to get the third party insurance, and start reading their training tips. You'll start talking about training zones, looking at power meters, setting yourself challenges, hitting Strava segments and achieving KOMs.
And your Giant TC3 will be given new companions - a CX bike, a single speed with fixie flip-flop hubs, winter trainer, and Brompton so that you never have an excuse for not having a bike with you.
You will be fitter, stronger, happier than you have ever been. But. You'll be a MAMIL.:bicycle:

Thanks for the really kind words everyone. Seems a VERY friendly forum........ and its great to be here :becool:

Fair to say i'm loving cycling right now. Just treated myself to some Shimano shoes and a nice pair of
Look pedals on the way home from work. So the tact of your (funny) post was spot-on BrumJim !!!

Im a big guy, and 6'3 tall. I'd got up to around 16 stone 5 lbs, and after 3 months of cycling EVERY morning before work, coupled with sensible eating; im now down to 13 stone 8 lbs. Afraid i don't have any full body shots....but you can sure see it in my face. I would like to get down to around 13 stone flat i think, and then am looking to continue cycling for definate for the keep fit, enjoyment and fresh air aspects. I just love being outdoors............

So : Last year on hols:

Crikey, you sure took life by the horns. Then got on it, held on to the horns and rode it like a boss. I hope your story serves as inspiration for many others, as it is a reward you well deserve.

Thankyou so much.....i think your making me out to be some sort of hero im really not though........

I tend to have two modes in life 1/ Full-on, at it, busy, working and playing hard OR 2/ Asleep. ! lol

And that also means i attack anything head on and in the extreme. So yes: I went into exercise, diet, non-smoking mode in one big hit !

To be fair though - all it shows is how amazing the human body is, and how with a little effort, dedication and sacrifice anyone can make a big change in a fairly small amount of time.

Cheers guys - Shuv/
