just set myself a challenge to ride a total of 1500 miles by the end of august, its not a lot (averaging 15 perday) but should keep me motivated to be out and about every day. also decided to ride to work every day, 15mile round trip. might end up doing more than 1500 as ive started doing some long rides on days off, anyone else been setting themselves any challenges?

Good luck with that. Mine is to do the London to Southend 52 miles on July 15.

hey Stephen

My challenge changes each week. I do 20 miles a day and obviously try to go faster than the day before. My real challenge is getting my speeds up. I say speeds as I have a rockhopper (specialised), and I carry my baby and seat on the rear end. Her weight, seat, bike is almost 40kgs of bike. I still manage to keep a reasonable 19-21 mph as an average even though we go up a nice big hill, (passing Knockhill racing track) and often go head on into wind.

My other baby is a charge plug mmmmmmmmm, anyway she is a fixed gear and have finally managed a very yummy 25.6 mph average around the same route. I have broken 30 mph on the flat and am now gunning for 30mph average over the 20 mile course. I had to change my sprocket to a 13T the other week to achieve this so may change the crank to a 46T to see if that helps as well. Downhill I have not gone over 32 mph as it is way too scary for me with my little legs turning faster than a merlin engine chasing a junker hehehehe.

I am going into a 52 mile charity ride in the summer and aim to do this in 2.5 hours about 21 mph average.

ive started getting faster now, managed to average over 20mph on a 3 mile segmant on strava, which ive never managed before which knocked over 3mins off my previous best and also got kom averaging around 25 mph on a 0.3 mile sprint on a coastal path although only 10 people have ridden it and im guessing my time would be pretty easy to beat :d

I honestly don't know how you all do it. The other day I was asking how to go faster and someone said they go 55 downhill. I don't swear but I would sh@t myself on the spot if I tried that. The only positive thing is I would pass everyone so quickly they would not hear the scream until I was 1/2 mile away hahahahaha. Good for you. Keep going :hyper:

i only do it on roads i know dont have pot holes and where i can see far ahead and always cover the brakes. wouldnt like to hit a car a 45mph lol

Personally I would be more scared of eating flys at 45 mph hehehehe

Alot of roadies on lightweight bikes would love to have an average speed like you are achieving on a MTB with a littlun in tow .. well done, you should be proud of yourself Fixie

My challenge is to ride from our Basingstoke office to our Paris office over 3 days in early September with a few experienced cyclists, including a ferry crossing. I only started cycling a few weeks ago and 250 miles over 3 days seemed an absurdly difficult target and I could hardly believe I got talked into it. But I've done 40 miles today in my second week with a road bike and I'm beginning to see the goal as achievable.
