nope, you're not being stupid, or at least we're being so together, I puzzled over these dimensions, and royal Mails, volumetric calcs for a while. Finally figured it would be ok, and kept my fingers crossed.

Both packages were bike boxes and measured L - 138cm, H - 76cm and D - 20cm - by my measures that's a girth of 192cm, plus 138cm length giving a total of 330cm - I just figured they shift bike boxes all the time and the boxes must be designed to ensure they meet whatever requirements.

Yes collection is included, I was just under £13 for each including VAT.

the price is certainly good, but mine comes out at about 350cm because the box is square and about 40cm thick and about 90x90cm! I might give it a try though.

I think you can ring RM to check re dimensions, I'm also glad it's not just me that was puzzled by the way they are described. I'm sure they used to give you a diagram that was really easy to understand, on the website, but I couldn't find one this time.

Thanks MacB - I've booked it for Thursday as the wife will be at home most of the day. Measured up the box accurately (with a tape measure - not my hand span!) and it came out at exactly 300cm!

Certainly the cheapest and an extra £100 insurance was only £1.20 more (I usually don't bother with insurance but the £50 standard seemed low for a £275 bike; so now got £150 which would be slightly better if it goes missing) - £13.80 in total. Much better than the £30 Winstanleys wanted.

Going to try a Dahon D7 folder as they appear to be much larger and suitable for my 6'2" height. Wiggle offer a free collection service should I decide to return it and Evans too if you have a good reason for returning it!!!

The senditnow guys showed up on time and looking very much like ParcelForce employees! They even had a red van with ParcelForce on the side.

Bargain - cheers MacB
