Need some advice please. I want to sell my three month old road bike, but unsure how much to ask, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bike is as follows

Kinesis Racelight T2 54cm frame with DC07 carbon Forks (2011 models)
Shimano 105 5700 full drivetrain, 50/34 with 11:28 cassette
Shimano R650 long reach calipers
Mavic OpenPro 32H wheels/Hope Pro3 Hubs
Thomson Elite layback seatpost
Thomson Elite stem

Need to sell as i'm having trouble with my shoulder and need a bike with a more upright position, have tried different stem combinations etc... but to no avail! Shop won't consider against another bike as they don't do part ex, so i'm a little stuck.

As i said, any advice on asking price would be appreciated.

How much did you buy it for?

There are no recently completed listing on ebay to try and judge it by, but there is one currently listed HERE. Don't know if that helps?

Don't know if you plan to, but now you've made it public on here I'd think twice before listing it on ebay. There are some people, (from here sadly) sabotaging peoples ebay bike listings. Contact gb155 for more details.

I'm not surprised - I think the bike is worth around £500.

I'd stick with it and try some work arounds to make it fit.

£500 as it is you mean? I think it's worth a little more than that, given that the components are only three months old, even allowing for second hand value. Could probably get more than that if i stripped the bike down and sold the parts separately!

Or did you mean £500 as a part ex value to a shop?

Agreed though, might just end up keeping it.

As you have said, it is built of different parts, therefore the shop probably charged very close to what all the parts put together would cost.

Because it is used, you should probably try to get about 1200-1400 for it. You will be very lucky if you sell it for what you bought it for.

My bike cost £250, 3/4 years ago. With all the scratches and marks on it now, it wouldnt be worth £150.

Cheers Matthew

I agree, the shop probably didn't stray far from the full retail for the parts, although the receipt does show a discount. As accountantpete mentioned, it may be worth just keeping the bike or possibly trying to modify with a riser handlebar or something.

Thanks for the input.

I would put it on eBay with a start price of £1200 and see how it goes (take lots of photos). You must accept that you are going to have to take a hit on the price you paid.

The one linked to has not had any bids, if it were me I would start it at 99p with a reserve of whatever the minium is you would take, once someone starts bidding they are well on the way to buying, even if it doesn't hit you reserve you will have the highest bidders details so you could still strike a deal.

Not sure eBay still does reserves or the relative costs.

Images loaded on to eBay should be huge and lots of them, and more than fill the pop up box, I use PS elements and resize my images to at least 1200 pixels wide, please remeber your list is to SELL the item not just list it and hope to sell, make em want it lol.

Stickin to mainstram brands has the biggest advantage in that they hold their value better, but you get less bang for your buck <normally>

How on earth can you sabotage someones eBay listing?

Have you thought about getting your shoulder sorted out ?

I ride road bikes with a shoulder injury - just causes me pain !

when I switched to a road bike I had endless neck problems, chriopractor and too much money later it is sorted, will never know if it would have gone by itself though!!
