I want to sell my road bike but before I put it in the For Sale ads I just wanted to know what the score was with selling as this will be the first bike I've sold.
I have a Giant TCR 1 2012 and its done about 500 miles and in very good condition. I did change the rear cassette from the OE 11/28 to a 11/34 but the original will come with the bike.
I also changed the OE seat to a Specialized Romin should I keep that on or put the original back.
The price I paid for the bike was £900 so what should I get for it when selling it?

Any help would be gratefull.

It depends upon how quick you wish to sell it, you also have more competition selling bikes at that price point which can keep prices aggressive. It's also worth checking out your LBS to see what they are selling 2012 models at, as you will need to be cheaper than them.

Tredz seems to have the bike priced at £800 now as an indicator.

So you have to take money off for your bike being used/second hand (wear and tear) and the fact its will not be in the condition of that offered by a shop with a new bike.
You equally have to appreciate that now 2014 models are out the perception and desirability Of 2012 models can be less.... what this equates to in your mind is the price you should ask.

I am only aware of what I would be willing to pay, which I can state if desired

I think you basically lose 20-30% as soon as you take it away from the shop and on the road - so if it can be bought new for £800 (and you paid £900), you are looking at £600-700 I'd say but it all depends who wants to buy and for how much as with anything second hand

I'd put the original saddle back on and keep the Romin

I have no idea what actual price you would expect to get for it, but bear in mind most people on here will be suggesting UK prices. In my experience, second hand items are always priced higher here in Spain (presumably because the prices always very negotiable), so bear that in mind when you decide the "list price" for your ad.

Also, was it bought in Spain, or online from the UK? If online, the brake levers will be the wrong way round for most people here, so it would make sense to swap the cables before trying to sell it.

Morning all and thanks for the replies. My reply is late due to illness of my mum in law.

Lots of good feed back.
£800 seems about right for a 2012 model in the UK but mine is Spanish but I didn't realise the levers were round th other way?

I was thinking about 600/650 euros over here so I'm not too far away with what I thought was a good price and I could drop a little on that.

Good idea to put the OE saddle back on which I have now done.
I'm having a ride round a few bike shops over here on Saturday to see if they would put it in there shop and sell it with 10% comission.
Cheers

UK = front brake lever on the right
Europe = front brake lever on the left

People who come from the UK to Spain will be familiar with the differences in setup (although the guys at our lbs have said their most common job is swapping the levers round for UK customers). If you sell it to a Spaniard, he will probably assume the front lever is on the left.

having levers the wrony way round is no issue once use to it

I agree, and I ride both (UK setup on road bike and Europe setup on MTB), but a Spanish cyclist living in Spain is going to expect his bike to be set up the Spanish way, which it will be if it was originally bought here.

I was thinking today while out on my mtb, if I could find a bike shop over here that sells the bike I want they might be more interested to sell mine?
