Are we allowed to know what they were...?!![]()
Of course. We can all learn from our mistakes, but learning from others' is cheaper and less painful!
Firstly I tried to convert a triple chainset to a double but found that the new bashguard I bought was not compatible, and when I reassembled the chainset I put the big ring on inside out. You can see the marks left by the chain on the "inside" of the big ring in this photo. I didn't realise the mistake until I tried spinning the chainset, at which point the chain catcher caught on the chainstay, scratching the finish

Secondly, I mounted the rear mech and failed to notice that I'd missed the stop on the dropout, which meant the mech turned about 45 degrees too far forward. It took ages to get the gears to index, and no B limit screw has ever been fiddled with as much. I didn't notice until the next day what I'd done until I took this photo, which shows a bizarre chain setup, and set me off exploring where it all went wrong .
