Seized nut

Hi,

I have an old mountain bike where one of the nuts holding the rear wheel on is seized solid (no QR). Due to the amount of times I've attempted to free it, I've rounded it slightly! I've tried everything I can think of, GT85, a rag round the nut, tighten then loosen.

Any suggestions or admit defeat and take it to the LBS and let the experts sort?

I'm not mechanically minded, however, this is quite an old bike that doesn't see much use so anything needing done on it I'd rather start trying to do myself and learn how to actually fix a bike. It's been a bit neglected for the last few months, so I'd like to "refurbish" it a bit.

The other bikes go the LBS at the moment.

Go on, tilt your head!
Heat it up...then try molegrips.

before the heating trick which may or may not be easy depending on your availability to a blow torch, try hacksawing the nut down the side of the threaded bolt, just protect the frame where you may catch it with the hacksaw. the nut will loosen or break off with a little persuasion
