It was a Black-browed, at the gannetry. It could have been visiting for a number of years before it was noticed.twentysix by twentyfive said:What was it doing there? Which species?
My list of Accidentals and Rare Vagrants says that Yellow- Nosed has been recorded in the UK whilst Wandering has been seen in the North Sea, Portugal and Scicily
I've just found that Black-Browed sometimes "summer" at gannetries whilst Shy are also visitors "up here".
Back in the 70's (I think), there was a Black-browed "Albert" that spent a couple or three summers at the Bass Rock, and then moved up to Hermaness for another ten years or so.
There have been a number of coastal records of Black-browed, but the first UK Yellow-nosed since 1836 was this summer, found near Burnham on Sea
. There were also Yellow-nosed seen in Lincolnshire, northern Norway and Denmark/Sweden, so there were at least two around.
