For a 12 -18 month expedition tour I would definitely go for a disc braked bike unless you already have the bike you intend to use. And if rimmed V brakes then a bike with pretty much new rims rather than one that had already covered a lot of miles and has already substantial rim wear.

Sorry I should qualify that. If you read that blog post you might get the wrong impression. I was simply referring to the fact that Dean could get his frame welded locally. That weld is still going strong as well, as far as I know.

Aye, it is still going, Tony.

The frame only cost me £15 in the first place, too.

BTW, 22camels, I have a (Ferrari red) Roberts Roughstuff with disc brakes (BB7 roads) which I'm looking to sell as it doesn't quite fit me (it's a large frame - the previous owner was 5'10" and I'm 5'11-and-a-half", but I'm too used to smaller frames). The frame's virtually unmarked, and the components are all high spec and little used. I'd also chuck in a spare 9-speed chain and cassette.

The only changes you'd have to make would be to bike fit. It's currently running Mungo bars and they may not be to everyone's taste...

Looking for £1200, but I'm open to offers - message me if interested, and I'll be starting a thread in for sale once I've given it a clean and got some photos.
