Rode to my kid's school and back this morning and my dodgy back is feeling much, so I think it is time to have a bit of a ride out and see how I get on. Nothing far or challenging so I'm going to go for a 6 miler, a little loop around Hartburn (basically the route I last rode with my son). Fingers crossed it'll be ok

Had a slack half hour so took an early lunch and went out. The route was only 4.8 miles according to the Garmin about 50/50 on road/off road in 22 minutes so ok I think to ease me back in. Realised we'd went out a different way last time... Anyway, I'm feeling fine at the minute, no pain or stiffness so hopefully it'll stay that way lol

My bike is all cleaned down now, baby wipes on the frame etc., drivetrain all brushed down etc.

Is it ok to use baby wipes on the stanchions btw, I'm guessing it should be fine with the wipes being oil based?

And I didn't really mean to. I just got the bike out for a bit of a ride on the local roads/cycle paths. It was a bit chilly so, seeing as I was staying local I just kept my jeans and fleecy jumper on (nothing underneath the jumper...)

There is a point where the cycle track turns to a trail and I thought I'd have a look along it and decided to ride up to Wynyard Woodland Park and back. Halfway along the track the sun got out and I was really cursing my choice of clothes :/

Then I came to this:

Took it cautiously and of course I started to sh*t it about halfway down. Then kicked myself when I got to the bottom and noticed the track off to the side which was a much easier way...

Got to where I was going, had a little break and a drink in the cafe and headed back. Bumped into a couple of guys who were cycling down from Sunderland. Had a bit chat and got home.

9.1 miles

Does anyone know why this bit of track has had big concrete blocks put in its way, theres one or two at the top and about 4 at the bottom. Used to love going down this, but now you cant unless you want to break every bone possible!

To stop your fun??
I have no idea. I was just thinking it looked like a fun hill.
I could do with some tracks like that near here, but we have roads/cycleways or full on mtb territory.
We tried one route with me on the apollo metis - obviously we didn't know what to expect - it wasn't pretty at the end!

It would seem that way, they are rather big blocks (I'll get some pictures next time im over there). They have clearly been moved by machine to that location to stop people going down the hill. Its a cycle track FFS though so why put them there, unless its some stuck up farmer with a grudge

Looks quite wide, would it be possible to get a car on there ? If so it's probably to stop the d--kheads getting on with stolen motors and having a race day. Not something you'd want to meet on a ride.

Might be possible to get a car down there but would I'd imagine it would be a bit of a squeeze if it was possible.
