seatpost - very tight fit

heating and chilling 'might' make it fit in, however it'll probably never come out again if I take that approach.
Was replying to a previous post and generalising regarding heating components.
Post sounds like it's been made out of tolerance possibly during finishing processes or has been "miss-labeled"

FYI, I returned this post to the supplier of Thomson components in the UK (i-ride) - they said there was nothing wrong with it and are returning it to me!!! So, I now have an expensive seatpost that doesn't fit in my frame - great! I could sell it on ebay and shift the problem to some other poor person, or take the financial hit myself. This is very poor indeed - Thomson should be appalled at the service they are offering.

I would take it around to an engineering shop and get it measured as soon as you have it back. Have you got the post that came out? What make of frame is it?

Thomson seat posts come in five different diameters and five different lengths in either silver or black, the tolerance on diameter is minimal (0 to .03 mm) so if whatever the size written on it is the same diameter as your seat tube it should fit. Evidently it doesn't fit so one of these dimensions is incorrect. You can double check the suppliers claim with vernier callipers and the seat tube with a micrometer, you are unlikely to have these tools but an LBS or local engineering shop might help. Is the frame kosher?
