I started off on one of those armchairs too but as soon as I started doing anything over 10 miles it became uncomfortable and the chafing took a week to calm down.....

Tried a few different saddles and have settled on a Charge Spoon which after 500 miles is now almost comfy.

And I'm 19 stone.

I like the look of that one. It's on my list of kit I don't yet need but want

Used to have a holey saddle on my Giant.. A non cycling friend asked me what the hole was for - Told her so I could wee without stopping, Probaly the only lie i've ever told & been able to keep a straight face

But not sure yet whther i like it or not!

I tell the kids when I'm teaching that it's because I pump a lot. For some reason they seem to think that's funny.

Would like to bung a brooks b17 on the bike, but that's impractical for the bike I use to teach.......hmmm.....perhaps it might justify n+1.....

Why would it be impractical...? But Heck, it's a good enough reason for n+1 in my books LOL!

Well it beats mine. I've recently changed to this Specialized Romin saddle and it's the most comfortable I've ever used.

I had been using a Fizik Aliante and on my other bike an old Cinelli SLR but had to give them both up due to discomfort in the nether regions.

If I used any of those saddles, I would have to explain in casualty how I managed to get a bicycle seat in my anus..

It does look pointed down, will have a play and straighten it up, cheers for the tip  learning all the time... I am building up to a gears question, but I am mentally not ready for that one yet.

What's inpractical about a B17?

there's nothing impractical about the b17, it's the fact that i would be worried more about the saddle than the bike when I'm teaching! It also gives me the basis for n+1...build a tourer from the saddle down, starting with the b17

Thanks for the angle tip, straighted up the seat and also after reading the forum, adjusted it to the correct height, its much better

Been looking at saddles since some of you have posted up some rather snazzy ones, so another item to pop on the shopping list.

I did a 72 miler yesterday, at about the 50 mile marker I was becoming a bit 'uncomfortable' by 55 was gettign sore, by 60 I swore on every lump n bump in the road, by 65 was so numb I didn't care!
Every time we had stopped - there were quite a few as a friend was having chain issues - and I got off I had a few seconds total agony, before my body went Ahhhhhh, only to be replaced by Eeeeeeek everytime I remounted.
I have decided that I really don't like the saddle on my Spesh at all!
Although had my sit bones measured and this is the right width for me I think it may be too short, feels like my bum is hanging over the back & the nose is rubbing where it shouldn't. It is a mans saddle, well it is a mans bike as the female vesrion was too samll for me. Reckon I should be looking at getting a female specific one with another 'wee hole' maybe

HA! I nearly PMSL and my computer chair hasn't got a hole in the middle! That'll teach them for asking such questions!
Yes, I think the holes or grooves in saddles do actually need to be matched to the sex of the person using them to be of any benefit, although I've never had a saddle with a hole and my boy bits still work as intended…
