Until recently a seat post was a seat post and my only relationship with one was to move it up or down and to fiddle with the other end to adjust a saddle but then - well you have already read the other two seat post posts I am sure so -
A seat post can be made of different materials, it can be different diameters and different lengths, it can even have a 'set back' so my question is, although bikes come with a seat post more or less unnoticed what informs the manufacturers decision? If you were building a bike from scratch what seat post would you choose?![Idea  ](/styles/default/xenforo/smls/idea.gif)
