hey!

So, my charge plugs original seat post and my saddle have had a falling out and no matter how tight I try and tighten it back up it comes loose within minutes and leaves me with a wobbly saddle (and if I'm unlucky, sore bloke zone too) and I'm fed up.

My question is, apart from weight, is there a difference from the ~£10 jobs from t'bay and the £50 ones the LBS is selling? I'd presume my charge plug freestyler takes 27.2 diameter and there are a ton that "look" like they should do fine?

Appreciate any input!

Thanks,

Stephen.

what about Charge's own "Chopstick" posts ?

as long as right od and you tighten it up shouldnt be an issue

Looking at the design on evans site? id think its worn ,due to being used while lose so its not going to stay tight no matter how tight you do it up..
its new post time, yes a cheap post works fine ,you pay for lighter weight and quality of finish as a rule..

It's more likely to be the seat tube rather than the post, which has become baggy or flared. A new seatpost whichever one you buy, will still slip. You have the choice of tightening the seatclamp a bit more, getting a seatclamp with a wider clamping area, or having the seat tube reamed out and fitting a wider diameter post. Having looked at the bike it has very little seat tube clamp area so a double width clamp may not do it.

As an experiment, and to show you it's the tube not the post, try raising the post beyond where it normally is clamped and tighten it. If it still slips it's the seat tube. If it clamps and won't shift, it's the post.

Sorry, not enough info provided it seems!

It's the clamp that's the issue, the post sits perfectly fine vertically, but as far as I can see the clamp is part of the post and that's what's coming loose.

I had (who am I kidding? It's in the shed and I've still not put it in the recycler) a seat post where the clamp bent and would no longer grip the rails for any length of time. New seatpost time. I'd expect to pay £20 LBS or incl P+P for a good branded seatpost with clamp, maybe £15 for an old-style post without clamp. I'm not sure what a £50 one would add unless you want titanium or something (do you get them yet?)
