It might be worthwhile replacing the bolt if the threads are in any way damaged or worn. Be very careful not to overtighten as you can deform the frame and seatpost.
Are you absolutely certain that the seatpost is the correct size? You could try the next size up but don't force it in.
Personally, I would just shim it with a bit of coke tin and trim off the excess.
Grease is needed, not just for anti-corrosion purposes but also to stop water getting into the frame. It is worthwhile to remove and re-grease seatposts and quill stems once a year.

the bike is titanium - on thinking about i made an adjustment to it pre-ride, i night just not have tightened it up enough after that. it was a tad cold out and the group was getting away from me.
