I emailed the supplier/manufacture of the seat post that was too long (Williams Cycling) and the supplier of the frame with the protruding rivets (Planet X) to ask for their advise before I chopped the seat post and they both ignored my request. I chopped it to fit this morning as it looks like I am on my own regarding service from either source. There is 7 inches inserted and 3 out so I guess I will discover for myself if this works or not.
Revenge has been talked about on CC recently and although I don't feel vengeful I am disappointed.

the last time I had to cut a seat post I first measured from the end of the post to the max hight mark. I then took that measurement to the newly cut post and made a mark that the became my new maximum hight as long as the mark was below the top of the seat tube in would be ok

I did finally get a reply from Williams, they said that 4 inches inserted is satisfactory so you can relax Jay he did say that KY jelly would void the warranty though.
