Back in the 80's when car safety was being developed Volvo were the leaders in Side Impact protection, crumplezones etc.

Every motorcyclist knew of someone who had a Volvo pull out on them....

According to my limited knowledge,

This spreads accross many situations and fields. Such as, if you are carrying a knife (or any weapon), you are more likely to take on conflict with another person or persons rather than running because you feel that you are safer. As a result, you are much more likely to be hurt. A lot of people get stabbed with their own weapons where they entered conflict instead of running away (which they would have done, had they not had a weapon) apparently.
