Hi Guys,

I need some help. My existing bike which is a Ridgeback Comet 2007 is starting to show its age. Last year i racked up quite a few miles on it and tyres are very warn and the gears are not as slicks as they once were. I have no intention of servicing this bike and decided it is time to move on from a hybrid and get myself a decent mid range road bike my budget is £600 to £650 so no idea if this will stretch to a decent road bike?

First bike have seen is a GENESIS Aether 20 which is available in my local bike shop
The other is a Vitus Razor which i seen on Chain reactions web site. The spec looks ok for the price but their is no reviews.

Any way I’m open to suggestions i need help.

Halfords had the boardman road comp reduced recently, might be worth a look at their site.

When i looked it was £899. I never like the look of these mass produced bikes.

I like the look of the Vitus on the Chain Reactions site. To be perfectly honnest i don't know an awfull lot about bikes. I ride my hybrid bike about 3-4 times a week and do about 80-100 miles per week. All i need is a road bike that can deal with the roads where i live, i tend to cycle up and round the moors in Halifax/Huddersfield so some roads tend to be ridled with small pot holes.

2007 - not exactly old.

Service it and buy a new bike too - always worth having a spare or two, three or even four  . Tyres, chain, cassette and cables isn't going to cost a fortune.

My dad was after a new bike ill let him have it. But im dead set on having a new road bike not spending more money on the old bike

Let me know what you decide on and how you get on with the transition. I'm thinking of making a similar move in a few months (Mrs Daff has dibbs on the next couple of months spare cash!) and would be interested in your experiences.

Just been and tried this bike at the shop and a pedal around the car park . I was quite impressed obviously im not an expert on the specs but comparing the spec with some the other stuff in the price range it seems better bike for the money. My local cycle shop has this at £649 which is cheapest i can find on the net.

Just wondering if anyone has the Aether 20?
