sealed headset?

and then strip out my headset and stick this in place of it?
would this just sit on my old crown etc race?

Should do - Assuming you have already 1 1/8th" headset already and that it is also semi-intergated. But you will need to use new crown race that goes with it.

correct no thread on top of steerer got a stem like this

i know it as a threadless system
