It became a thing to make blocks narrower... they were called ultra. So an ultra 6 was the same width as a standard 5 ultra 7 same as a 6
I think they required a narrower chain.

Have just removed a 5 speed from a circa 1978 Raleigh racer together with shifter and mech. Was going sell them as one lot. Let me know if your interested.
