As Profpointy said they are for an extra bottle cage although I wouldn't recommend drinking out of the bottle mounted under the tube as they do get really dusty/dirty down there. Advise is to use to top up the other bottles.

Sound advice.

A mate of mine picked up a nasty gastric infection from drinking from an under-tube bottle.

Most likely cause was a tiny amount of animal faeces/urine which had been thrown onto the top of the bottle.

I have them on my thorn, they're for a 2nd or 3rd bottle cage.

Ditto. The same on my Ridgeback Panorama. Probably very useful on a tour or a major ride in hot weather, but beware: Need to remove the said third bottle cage before the bike will fit on a car roof-mounted bike rack. For that reason I have never used mine.

As already been said best used for fuel bottles.

Geoffrey Butler sells a bottle-sized screw-top container for tools, etc., that fits perfectly in the third cage. I keep two tubes in mine.

I quite like my Boss, he seems like a decent person, so...no thanks I shall leave him in his office today.
I've known quite a few I'd have happily screwed to my down tube.

A certain crisp manufacturer whose label sounds like "dringles" also make a tube shaped container that perfectly fits the average bottle cage and is great for carrying tools in. There are other crisp manufacturers.....

Their tubes are also perfect for making a carbide cannon. Tape two together, bottom one is the combustion chamber and top one is the barrel. Fired a tennis ball a couple of hundred yards, but did end up deaf for the rest of the day when I got a detonating mixture, rather than the more desirable burning fast mixture. Great fun !
