Hi,

Have been in my LBS looking at a Scott Speedster 30, and was wondering if there were any horror stories I need to be aware of before I go ahead and order?
The owner of the shop was very open, he did say there was sometimes an issue with the headset in that it needed regreasing now and then, but that they would do it at the 6 week service and show me how.
Apart from that... i'm a little worried that I'll want to pop a carbon seatpost on it at some time, and i've been told the wheels would benefit from an upgrade, but then I'm thinking that i'm already talking about upgrades on a 2015 £750 bike.....

Anyway, good or bad stories about Speedster 30 very much appreciated.

Thanks.

Looks like a nice bike to me - pretty well equipped. Scott make decent kit.

£750 to some people is a lot of money and it shouldn't need upgrading.

£750 to some people is not a lot of money and the brakes, wheels, tyres blah, blah blah need upgrading.

If it fits you, rides nice and you like how it looks then just buy it and ride it into the ground.

Unless you are a pretty good rider wheels will make very little real word difference to you.

Have fun with it.

Manufacturers can't afford to put out a "bad" bike that is going to have issues. At that price point it will have decent gear on it. Why would you think it needs a carbon seat post? If it's to save weight take the change out of your pockets. As Eddy Merckx once said "Don't buy upgrades, ride up grades!".

The seatpost was for comfort/vibration, but to be honest, I'm going to go with it, and not bother with any upgrades, I'm kidding myself if I think I'll notice the difference.
It was Wallis Cycles near Preston, who so far have been very helpful in answering stupid queries etc...

I don't think I've found any headset that didn't need greasing at least "now and then." Unless you're planning to kill it with neglect that's a bit of a non issue.

A cylindrical carbon post won't offer any more vibe damping than a cylindrical alloy one - they're usually stiffer than the alloy ones.
