I've never used Pro 3's so I can't give you a comparison, but I've got some Ultremo R's and they are the bollocks.

Instant acceleration and loads of cornering grip. I'm even willing to risk inviting the punc$£%e fairy by saying that I've used them over roads that have given me punctures with Fortzza Tricomps without a problem.

They're even better when my LBS does them at £27 each. ;)

If it is any help I use the Durano Plus folders. I have had them three weeks and only one puncture so far which was a "pointy" bit of glass. The tyres are certainly more comfortable than the Armadillos I had previously.

Excellent tyres, v. good handling, very good grip, and super low rolling resistance. Unfortunately they are subject to recall because of a manufacturing fault. I cut mine up and sent them back to Schwalbe, and am now eagerly awaiting my replacement R.1s.

aww right cheers, seen that the other day on the net after the post i made as they made the tyre wrong with the compound and it would bulge or be outa shape over time, hope the new version is not made by the same crowd. noticed theres a new version of the schwalbe ultremo r1s due to be out in november some time so shall invest in them  unless michelin bring outa pro 4 race tyres

We had some club members buy them last year as they are lighter than Michelins. After about 1000Kms everyone began having problems with bulges as the sidewalls began to break up. Schwalbe issued a recall and, guess what, the replacements did the same. It wasn't just the "S" model either. There is supposed to be a new model coming out but confidence has gone. We are all back to Michelin PR 3 which have never given any problems.

Schwalbe have a very good name with tyres in the recumbent world. I'm looking forward to getting the R.1s! Limey, there are currently no replacements for Ultremo Rs, not from Schwalbe anyway, as they've yet to produce the R.1s. They were handing out Stelvios as a temporary replacement as these don't have the problem, but don't make them in my rear wheel size, 650C.

Understood but when you are coming down Mt Ventoux at close to 60 m.p.h. you don't want any doubts about your tyres.

For what its worth we've had similar problems with some top of the range Hutchinsons as well.

I think as you go down in weight the reliability is compromised.

I had some fitted to my Cube Streamer when delivered and I rate the tyres highly. Nice grip and handling, even in wet.

I've just swapped them on my rims for some Schwalbe Blizzard tyres, as they were at a good price (£20.00 for 2 tyres and 2 Schwalbe inner tubes) to see whet they are like compared to the Ultremo tyres.

If they are good as a traing tyre, I'll save the Ultremo tyres for a bit of racing!
