I must be really unlucky, I have had three punctures on my Dawes now in the last 900km (35 days) in a brand new pair of Schwalbe Marathons that were bought on the strength of their reputation. I spent the whole of the summer on my Bianchi on a pair of ultralight conti racing tyres without a single puncture. It wouldnt be so bad - but it seems to allways happen at night in less than perfect weather a long way from home.

She picks her moments, especially for those who are reckless enough to utter her name. I got some Marathon + tyres in November and have been lucky so far. The brand new bike, which I picked up on Saturday evening, and with standard retail tyres got hit on Monday morning. An inch-long galvanized nail in the side wall. Amazing shot.

I'd had enough about 3 years ago, stuck on M+'s and have not had a "problem" since. They are on my hybrids and audax, trail riding, mucky roads, trip to Barcelona, I'll never use another tyre.

I've been on M+ for a year, and haven't had a single puncture.
Before I got them I had 6 in the space of 2 months.

I had two spontaneous deflations in an M+ within 50 miles. First was my putting the tube in wrong (durrr). Second was a killer shard of glass that nothing could withstand. On the plus side, I now have Thumbs-Of-The-Gods(tm).

Not making me feel great - I just paid 50 quid for 2 26x1.75s and 2 new inner tubes....

I use M+ tyres on two of my bikes my tourer and my Brompton. On the tourer, I've had zero punctures over the last two years or so. On the Brompton I've been through two sets of tyres but I had a problem with one tyre which punctured about 5 times in 4 months. Getting a bit hacked off with this (as it was occurring on my rail-commute), I replaced the tyre 14 months ago and have had no problem since.

So my conclusion is that they are an extremely puncture-proof tyre but occasionally a duff one gets through quality control at the factory.

Tyres can only be puncture resistant not puncture proof, and there will always be things on roads and tracks and paths which are sharper than a sharp thing and longer than a long thing, which will go through any tyre.

Puncture resistant tyres will reduce their number but punctures are a fact of cycling life and we all just have to live with it.

I've found marathons very good since they came out, but one day I'm sure I'll make up for it and have the ride from hell in the dark wet and cold, miles from home, with a puncture every half mile. Then I'll think about marathon plusses.
